MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN MIAMITOWN CRITICALLY INJURES TWO

5/21/06: A leisurely Sunday motorcycle ride ended in tragedy as an RV and a motorcycle collided in Miami Township. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an accident at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and State Route 128 in Miamitown shortly before 3 p.m. A 1992 Harley Davidson driven by Daniel Henderson, 56, of Reading, was crossing over State Route 128 at a green light when he and his wife Linda Henderson, 57, were hit by a motor home driven by Douglas Palmer of Nicholasville, KY. The force of the impact ejected both Henderson and his wife from the motorcycle. Police say neither were wearing helmets. Two University Air Care helicopters were called to the scene. The Hendersons were transported to University Hospital where they underwent emergency surgeries. 9News was told that Daniel Henderson suffered severe head trauma and that Linda Henderson lost her leg when the bike wedged under the RV. Both were listed in critical condition Sunday night. Palmer was not injured in the crash. So far, charges have not been filed. Early stages of the investigation suggest the driver of the RV never saw them coming as he made his turn. Police say the Henderson's were headed eastbound on Harrison Avenue while Palmer was headed westbound. "You know you have a motorcycle against a 2,500 pound RV it's not going to be good for the motorcycle as it was in this case," said Fire Chief Jim Hughes, of the Miami Township fire department. Hamilton County sheriff's deputies say drugs and alcohol were not factors in Sunday's crash. (copyright: wcpo.com)

Correction on this incident: The crash occurred in Whitewater Township, not Miami Township.

EARLY MORNING BASEMENT FIRE CONTAINED IN DELHI TWP

5/15/06: A Delhi family was awaken by their dog shortly before their smoke detector alerted them of an early morning basement fire. The homeowner discovered that the home was quickly filling with smoke and evacuated his family. The fire department was notified at 0124 hours of a structure fire in the 5100 block of Orangelawn Dr and received confirmation by Delhi PD that units had a working fire upon their arrival. E-36 and Q-33 crews quickly located the seat of the fire and had the fire under control within ten minutes. The home was ventilated and the basement overhauled. There was significant smoke damage throughout the home. Fire damage was limited to two rooms and the estimated loss to structure and contents have not been determined. GREATER CINCINNATI HAZ MAT UNIT RESPONDS TO INCIDENT IN ANDERSON TWP

5/15/06: Anderson Township residents heard the all-clear Monday night. That's after hazardous materials crews were summoned to the B-Way Corporation on Broadwell Road after a worker there noticed a bulge in a barrel holding a potentially explosive and toxic cleaning agent. Crews were able to carefully take the barrel down from a storage rack to let it vent, preventing a possible explosion. The plant, which makes aerosol cans, had been evacuated as a precaution. There were no injuries because crews were prepared for "anything," according to Chief Mark Ober, of the Anderson fire department. "What we do is put three plans together," explained Chief Ober. "The one we would like to use, a backup and a third plan, but that's what we have done here." The all-clear was given by HazMat crews around 8:30 p.m., sending workers on the third shift back inside the plant.

MULTIPLE SHOOTING VICTIMS TREATED BY 79's IN THE "STEELE SUB"

5/6/06: It started out as an evening of fun for some local teenagers. But a house party in Springfield Township Saturday night ended in gunfire with three teenagers wounded. The party was held at a house on Fourth Avenue in West College Hill -- also known as "Steele Sub" -- a small community bordered by College Hill, North College Hill and Mt. Airy. Springfield Township police are saying little, however, about their investigation into the shooting. A high school ID badge was found laying on the street near the shooting scene. It's a sober reminder of the ages of this crime's three victims. All under 18 and all from the same neighborhood where 9News was told gunshots have become more common. Two of the victims were found at the house Saturday night while police found the third victim in a vehicle on nearby Kipling Avenue. "Police had the street blocked off from up there to Fourth," said Pearson, "ambulances, helicopters, the dogs, everything else." Those in the neighborhood say there was just one shooter, but that information has yet to be verified by Springfield Township police. (copyright: wcpo.com)

2 ALARM APARTMENT FIRE ON SHARON PARK LANE IN SHARONVILLE

5/3/06: The Red Cross is helping six families find a place to stay after a fire at a Sharonville apartment building Wednesday morning. One person was reportedly hurt in the fire. That person's name and condition have not been released. The fire happened in the 4000 block of Sharon Park Lane, near Sharon Woods, around 10:30 a.m. According to the Red Cross, the fire chased at least 20 people, including eight children, from their homes. Some dogs were also in the building, and at least one is safe because of a woman who saw the fire. "I was in bed and heard people screaming. I saw flames coming out of the apartment and I knew there were dogs there. So we went over and got some dogs out of the building," said resident Kathy Scott. Five departments were called to the scene and continued to clean up and investigate at noon Wednesday. (copyright: wcpo.com)
