G-SECTION BASEMENT FIRE EXTINGUISHED BY 42's

9/29/2006:  Forest Park unit's on scene for a reported basement fire from a single story residence.  Crews arrived to find smoke showing. Reported all occupants out of the structure.  Crews completed a quick search and ventilated the structure while two hand lines were deployed to the front and rear of the house.  Crews encountered heavy smoke and high heat going into the basement.  Extinguished and overhaul completed.  No injuries.  Fire damage at $40,000.  Cause was a child playing with matches.

HARRISON POLICE OFFICER INJURED IN CRASH ON HARRISON AVE

9/17/06: A Harrison police officer had to spend the night in the hospital after his patrol car was slammed from behind while he was responding to a call Sunday afternoon. Three others were injured in the accident. Harrison Police received a call Sunday afternoon, that a man operating a motorized mobility device had been seen traveling west on Harrison Ave, said Police Chief Chuck Lindsay. Police were told that the man had narrowly missed being struck by other vehicles four times during the journey from his home in the 9000 block of West Rd in Whitewater Twp. Officer Bill Staggs, 33, was eastbound on Harrison Ave when he saw the man. Staggs signaled that he was turning left and had just shouted to the man to stop when his patrol car was struck from behind by a Chevy Impala driven by Todd Smith of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Smith had apparently suffered from a medical emergency and lost control of his car. Staggs suffered a concussion and was taken to University Hospital. Hamilton County Sheriffs Department is investigating the crash. The operator of the Motorized mobility device was cited to mayors court. (Harrison Press)

FAIRFIELD FIREFIGHTER CHARGED IN FATAL FIRE APPARATUS CRASH ON ROUTE 4

9/22/06: A Fairfield firefighter now faces charges in connection with a fatal crash while he was on the job.24-year-old Matthew Schumann of Fairfield was driving a fire truck that crashed into Rayann Cavin on August 2 on Route 4.The 73-year-old grandmother died in the crash. The investigation found Schuman ignored the red light without looking to make sure the intersection was clear. He has been charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter and one count of failing to exercise due care when operating a public safety vehicle. Schumann is still on duty, but restricted from driving. He is due in court on October 4. If found guilty, he could face up to four months in jail. The victim's family had no comment Friday, saying the case is in the hands of the prosecution. (www.wcpo.com)

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE INJURES FIREFIGHTER

9/22/06: At least one person is recovering from injuries Friday morning after a house fire in Anderson Township. Crews were called to the 2400 block of Eight Mile Road just after 11 p.m. The house was burning on the second floor, with flames shooting through the roof. One person was taken by ambulance to Mercy Anderson Hospital. That person's condition has not been released.

HOUSE FIRE IN MARIEMONT

9/19/06: 67 units arriving on-scene found rapidly increasing fire conditions on the a/b corner of the house. While crews were stretching initial hand lines, the front porch and soffit area flash and ignited ceiling area of porch. Crews used 1 3/4 line w/ class A foam to knock down initial fire. Crews were sent to second floor to check for extension while crews worked on first floor and outside of structure to stop advancement into the second floor. house was over 100 years in age and balloon frame. Estimated damage over $100,000 total. Cause was a GFCI outlet that had failed.

DOG CAUSES CRASH ON RONALD REAGAN HIGHWAY IN SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

9/6/06: The westbound lanes of Ronald Reagan Highway at I-75 in Springfield Township have reopened after a crash suspended morning rush hour traffic. Police say two cars crashed around 6 a.m. when one of the vehicles crossed through the median and hit the other car head-on while trying to avoid hitting a dog in the road. Two adults and an eight-year-old child were hurt in the crash and taken to University Hospital, although the extent of their injuries are unknown. The dog did not survive the crash. (wcpo.com)

STATION 96 RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR FIRE AND EMS SERVICES IN GLENDALE

9/6/06: Glendale's village council has voted to negotiate a contract with Woodlawn for fire and emergency services. Since Glendale's fire department was disbanded earlier this year, Springdale and Woodlawn have split the calls. Glendale's mayor says Woodlawn is closer and can respond faster. They will also use Glendale's fire station. The village is currently taking applications for fire fighters as well as a new fire chief. (wcpo.com)

FATAL BUS CRASH ON US 52 IN ANDERSON TOWNSHIP

9/1/06: At least six people have been seriously hurt in a Friday afternoon school bus crash. A bus Forest Hills School District collided with a car on US 52 at 8 Mile Road in Anderson Township around 2:30 p.m. Police told 9News four students, the bus driver and the car's driver are all seriously hurt. The driver of the car has passed away, according to Ron Fischer, 9News photographer on the scene. The four children aboard the bus were not hurt in the crash, and they have been taken home. The bus driver was transported to Mercy Anderson Hospital, where his condition is unknown. (wcpo.com)
