BLUE ASH POLICE OFFICER CRUSHED BY A VEHICLE ON INTERSTATE 71

11/21/07: Medic and Rescue 73 were dispatched to a MVC with entrapment on SB I-71 south of I-275. While responding Medic 273 was dispatched to the same location for another entrapment involving a police officer. Rescue 73 requested Engine and Medic 13 to assist on the detail. On scene finds 2 cars off the roadway and no entrapment. A Blue Ash Police Officer sitting on the guard rail covered in mud. The blue car (PT Cruiser) originally crashed into the guard rail and spun around into the woods. The Blue Ash Police Officer came upon the crash and requested MFD to respond. As he was talking to the driver of the crash, another car (Grey Mustang) loses control and hits the same guard rail rolls over and strikes the blue car. The police officer tries to flee and the mustang crashes down on him pinning him under the mustang. He radio's dispatch for help and is able to crawl out from under the wreckage. Due to the rain all day the ground where he was crushed was muddy and the only injury was a minor burn on his back shoulder from the exhaust pipe. 3 victims were transported to Bethesda North for evaluation.

LARGE GRASS FIRE IN WEST HARRISON BRINGS UNITS FROM 3 STATES

11/7/07: The Harrison Fire Department and the New Trenton Fire Dept received major help from Indiana, Ohio and northern Kentucky emergency crews as they cleaned up a major grass fire in West Harrison Indiana on Wednesday. The fire happened not far from the Brookville exit of I-74. The Higher Ground Camping Center in West Harrison was turned into a massive staging area for the fire fighting and fire containment equipment.
The Hamilton County Emergency Communications Mobile Unit and the Hazmat Unit were there to help the various Indiana , Ohio and Kentucky departments communicate with the various frequencies that are used by each dept. .
Part of the problem firefighters were up against was the fire was in a remote area, north of a cell phone tower, where crews had to hike their way into heavily wooded areas, and were even forced to use earth moving equipment to clear paths to the fire area. Harrison was dispatched around 05:30 in the morning and the fire was "under control" around 18:00 that evening. The fire is being investigated by the Indiana State Fire Marshal and Dearborn Co. Investigator Kevin Turner.

All of us at The Harrison Fire Department would like to thank everyone who was part of the incident Wednesday, for all their help and a job well done.
