ENGINES 39 & 96 RESCUE 4 FROM SUSPICIOUS APARTMENT FIRE ON HASLER LANE
|
3/25/07:
Fire trapped several people in an Elmwood Place apartment building this
morning, many of whom were still sound asleep when the fire broke out.
The fire broke out in the apartment building located on Hasler Lane. The
Elmwood Place fire chief tells 9News that they are investigating the
fire as suspicious, mainly because of where it started – right in the
main hallway by the front door. With fire and smoke in all the main
hallways, people inside couldn't get out their doors – most of them
escaping through their windows. Several fire departments responded to
the scene including Elmwood Place, St. Bernard, Woodlawn and Springfield
Township. Once on scene, firefighters said their most urgent issue was
to deal with was getting people out of the building, as several were
still trapped inside. "We arrived on scene, had several people hanging
out the windows of the second floor and one gentleman trapped on the
basement floor," Fire Chief Matt Morgan, of the Elmwood Place fire
department, told 9News."We got them down on ladders from the second
floor, all exterior and pulled the gentleman from the basement from the
interior," said the fire chief. One man and his 15-year-old son were
rescued from a top floor window. And it was first floor windows, 10 feet
above ground, that some also jumped. The apartment building is not
inhabitable at this point due mainly to smoke and water damage. In the
meantime, the Red Cross is taking care of the people who lived here. (wcpo.com) Units: 2nd Alarm: Command: 3901 (Morgan) Raw Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggXuGu-ZlRU |
