WORKING FIRE ON CASCADE RD IN FOREST PARK

6/18/07: Dispatched to 855 Cascade for reported structure fire.  While Responding, updated per police on scene confirmed working fire and all occupants were out of structure.  Heavy smoke was seen from Winton Road and Sharon Road.  Requested two additional engine companies to respond(Colerain Engine 109 and Glendale Engine 45). On scene with a single story residential structure with heavy fire and smoke coming from side "B" side of the structure including the roof, also a power line was down in the front yard and was live and sparking.

District 25 (B/C Ellert) assigned to Safety.  Duke energy notified for immediate response.  The power line was taped off with red fire line tape and cones by District 25.  Command was established by 4202 (A/C Rupp) with the correct address as 855 Cascade Road and accountability was established be 4801 (Chief Spaeth).

Engine 42 established a water supply from across the street from incident.  Engine 42 crew deployed 200 feet of 1 3/4 inch hoseline to the front door.   Engine 242 crew splint into two man crew.  Engine 242 crew A was interior crew and Engine 242 crew B was exterior crew. Engine 242 crew A found that the front door was locked and had to force entry into the structure.  Once entry was made crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions.  Engine 43 crew established a secondary water supply and deployed a back up attack line of 200 feet of 2 1/2 inch hoseline off Engine 42.  Engine 43's crew made entry and began assisting interior 1 (Engine 42) with extinguishment of the fire.

Mutual aid companies began to arrive and put to work.  RIT was reassigned to Tower 86 (Sharonville).  Primary and secondary search was completed by Engine 242 crew A with negative findings.  Crew began to assist with extinguishing the fire.  Fire was very difficult to extinguish due to roof involved.

Fire investigation finds cause as a charcoal grill left unattended on the "B" side of the structure catching the exterior wall on fire and chasing up the roof. Red Cross called for displacement of two adults.  Duke energy arrives and disconnects power to the house and turned off the gas.  Crews picked up all equipment and returned to quarters.
