GOLD STAR CHILI FIRE IN COLERAIN CONTAINED BY SPRINKLER SYSTEM

1/17/07: The Colerain Township fire department says overloaded electrical power strips and extension cords in an upstairs office are to blame as the cause of fire at the Gold Star Chili in Groesbeck. Investigators say heat from the fire activated a "limited-area" sprinkler system which prevented it from spreading to the stairwell. The restaurant was evacuated by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. No one was hurt. Firefighters say they were able to put out the fire quickly, but damage to the structure is estimated at $50,000.

55's PUT IN SERVICE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL RESPONSE TRAILER

1/4/07: The Green Township Fire Department is now better-equipped to handle hazardous materials incidents. Officials have obtained a 20-foot long trailer purchased with $7,500 donated dollars and equipped using Homeland Security dollars. The trailer carries gear that could be used to contain or mop up fuel spills from auto accidents or from vehicles traveling on I-74.The trailer is a "stop-gap" measure to control a scene until other hazmat equipment from around Hamilton County can respond. "The trailer contains some equipment that we normally couldn't hold on our pumpers and our ambulances." Lt. Mike Nie of the Green Township Fire Department said. "This is a place to keep it and get it to the scene quickly instead of having to load it up at the time of an emergency. "The trailer is housed at the Green Township fire station near the intersection of West Fork and North Bend roads. (wcpo.com)
