WORKING FIRE IN SPRINGDALE INJURIES TWO RESIDENTS
|
12/07/07:
A Springdale couple is
lucky to alive after a fast burning fire burned through the roof of
their home early Friday morning. The fire started just before 6:00 a.m.
in the
800 block of Crescentville Road,
just east of Route 747.Relatives told 9News Jane and Harry Finlaw are
doing alright at University Hospital as they recover from smoke
inhalation and in Harry's case, burns he suffered in the fire. Their
family feels they are both lucky to be alive, thanks to a good samaritan,
who spotted the fire on his way to work and stopped to help get them
safely out of the burning home. Several other people passing by called
for help. Once firefighters arrived to the scene they were surprised
with how far the fire had gotten in the few minutes it took them to get
there. Chief Dan Shroyer of the Springdale Fire Department said, "The
majority of the house was already involved, there was fire coming out of
the windows, it's unusual for it to be so quickly engulfed. "Long before
the fire had a chance to burn through middle walls, windows and through
a section of the roof, the Finlaw's were able to safely escape, with the
help of a stranger who helped them get out. As Harry Finlaw's brother,
Fred was talking about how anxious he was to thank the man who saved his
brother and his sister-in-law, the man drove up to check on the house
and the couple during his lunch break. The man who saved the Finlaw's,
Mike Bailey is a construction worker from Tipp City, Ohio. Bailey said,
"I noticed there was a fire and I started knocking on windows, yelling
at the top of my lungs, because the smoke was coming so far.
"Unfortunately, both of the Finlaw's dogs died in the fire. Relatives
said it will be hard to tell them their dogs were lost in the fire. (wpco.com) Units: Command: |
